  • Contadina Tomato Paste (1 can 6 oz.) , about 2/3 cup
  • Water (1/2 cup) 
  • Dried oregano, crushed (1 teaspoon). 
  • Dried basil (1 teaspoon), crushed
  • Garlic powder (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Onion powder (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Sugar (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Salt (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (1/4 teaspoon)

Step 1

Add all ingredients to a small bowl and mix well.

Step 2

Allow flavors to develop for about 15 minutes.

VARIATION:  This recipe can be made into Parmesan Pizza Sauce by stirring in 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese.

Tip: You can warm 1 Tbsp. of tomato paste to develop a rich, sweet taste. Preheat the olive oil in a small saucepan.  About 1 to 2 minutes later, add tomato paste and stir constantly until it begins to brown.  Immediately remove from heat and add paste according to recipe directions. 

If you use a 12 oz. container, the recipe can be doubled. Tomato paste can be used in place of two 6 oz. containers.
