How to make a Taco Bueno
- Ground beef, 1 1⁄2 lbs
- Spaghetti sauce, 1 jar
- kidney beans, 1 can (optional)
- Chili seasoning mix, 1 1/4 ounce
- Chopped onion, ½ cup
- Minced garlic, 1 tbsp
- Mexican blend cheese, 8 ounces (shredded, reserve 4oz for topping)
- Tortilla chips, 22 ounces (plain round)
Place 1 ½ lbs of ground beef evenly in a Dutch oven. Brown the beef and then transfer on a plate lined with paper towels.
Drain off the excess moisture and reserve 2 tbsp of fat from the ground beef.
Add ½ cups of chopped onion, 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, and the reserved moisture to a frying pan.
Saute the onions and garlic over medium heat until translucent and soft.
Return the cooked beef to the pan, along with the vegetables.
Add the spaghetti sauce, kidney beans, and 1 ¼ ounce or 3 tablespoons of chili seasoning mix.
Stir the mixture for 3 to 5 minutes, then transfer it to a plate, leaving a small amount of chili mixture in the pan.
Spread the leftover chili evenly over the tortilla chips, then add the Mexican blend cheese. Continue layering until you run out of chili mixture.
Top with the casserole crush and reserved cheese.
Cover the casserole with an oven-proof lid, and bake at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes.
Remove the cover and bake for 10 more minutes.
Serve hot after removing from the oven. Tacos with a special chili seasoning mix are extra tasty because they have a meaty tang.
