  • beef tri tips (trimmed and cleaned), 3 pounds
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced) of
  • olive oil, 1/4 cup
  • soy sauce, 1/4 cup
  • ground black pepper, 1 tablespoon
  • paprika, 1 teaspoon
  • mustard powder, 1/2 teaspoon
  • honey, 1 teaspoon

Instructions

Step 1

In a large Ziploc bag, combine the red wine, minced garlic, olive oil, soy sauce, black pepper, paprika, mustard powder, and honey. Seal and shake until well combined.

Step 2

For the marinade, place the tri tip in the refrigerator for six to eight hours, or overnight, but no longer than 24 hours.

Step 3

Grill one side at high heat, and the other side at low heat. You will only cook on the high heat side of the grill.

Step 4

Discard the marinade after removing the tri tip from it. Place the tri tip over the hot grill. Sear both sides for one to two minutes. The tri tip should be placed on the other side of the grill, away from direct heat.

Step 5

It is recommended to grill for 10-15 minutes per side, or until a thermometer registers the temperature you desire. A temperature of 140°F is ideal for medium-rare meat.

Step 6

Lay the tri tip on a chopping board, cover it loosely with foil, and remove it from the grill. Allow the meat to rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing. If you want to slice the tri tip, cut it in half where the grains meet, and then slice each half against the grain. Enjoy!
