  • Challah loaf, 1 
  • Large eggs, 8 
  • Pure vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon
  • Half-and-half or milk, 5 cups
  • Honey, 3 tablespoon
  • Grated orange zest, 1 tablespoon
  • Kosher salt, ¼ teaspoon
  • Confectioners’ sugar and maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

Step 1

Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Slice the challah loaf into 3-4 inch thick slices. Put the slices in a baking dish that measures 9x13x2 inches.

Step 2

Mix the eggs, honey, half-and-half, orange zest, vanilla, and salt together. Cover the bread slices with the mixture and soak for ten minutes.

Step 3

Pour enough hot water into a large roasting pan. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil tightly in the roasting pan. Score the foil a few times for steam to escape.
