I’m a big fan of sausages. I love them, especially the classic breakfast sausage, smoked. I have attempted to create my own variations over the years but I never forgave myself for it and always ended up buying it once again. I finally tried Penrose again about 2 years ago and I was blown away. I have made this recipe my own and I will pass on the recipe to you!

How to make Penrose Sausage

Penrose sausage is a very easy and simple sausage-making process that works with a variety of meats. The results are fantastic and can be used to replace frankfurter for holiday meals or as an alternative to chicken.

Ingredients

  • Water, 1/2 cup
  • White vinegar, 2 cups.
  • Powdered red pepper, 1/2 tbsp.
  • Red pepper flakes, 1 tbsp.
  • Minced garlic, 1 tsp
  • Diced onion, 1 tbsp.
  • Paprika, 1 tsp
  • White pepper, 1/2 tsp
  • Sea salt, 1 tbsp.
  • Cinnamon, 1/4 tsp
  • Cloves, 1/4 tsp
  • Nutmeg, 1/4 tsp
  • White pepper, 1/2 tsp
  • Hillshire Farms Lil Smokies precooked sausages, 28 ounces package.

Instructions

Step 1

You will need a medium-sized bowl.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, combine half a tbsp of powdered red pepper, one tsp of red pepper, one tsp of minced garlic, one tbsp of diced onion, one tsp of paprika, half a tsp of white pepper, one tbsp of sea salt, 1/4 tsp of cinnamon, 1/4 tsp of cloves, 1/4 tsp of nutmeg, etc.

Step 3

Put the bowl aside and take a saucepan.

Step 4

Add 1/2 cup of water and 2 cups of white vinegar. I’m using Heinz white vinegar as the white vinegar here.

Step 5

The water and vinegar mix should now be boiled for 2 minutes over medium heat.

Step 6

Pour the mixture from the bowl into the saucepan and boil for 5 minutes over medium heat.

Step 7

Slice the precooked sausage into two or three pieces, and place them into a clean glass pitcher.

Step 8

Pour the boiled spiced liquid mixture over the sausages in the pitcher. Make sure that the liquid mixture covers all the sausages.

Step 9

Keep the pitcher sealed with a lid and ring.

Step 10

Let the pitcher cool at room temperature.

Step 11

Put it in the refrigerator for seven days. Shake the pitcher at least once a day.

Step 12

Serve it with anything you like after 7 days.
