Mincemeat pie has a sweet, slightly tart taste along with a hint of cloves.
This recipe for mincemeat pie was developed in the 19th century. It’s a dish unique to England, made with the meat of the guinea pig, ham hocks, pork & beef suet. The combination of meat, suet and egg yolks gives this pie its rich flavor. To make mincemeat, you should use guinea pig because it has very juicy meat, which rejuvenates the flavor of the other ingredients. If you use ham hocks, the ham flavor is also enhanced because it has a higher fat content.
