Grandma's Chocolate Pie recipe is so easy to make. It’s a perfect rich chocolate pie as well as a perfect base for any other dessert. Chocolate pie is a great way to keep the ice cream craving at bay while also providing some much-needed exercise.
Whipped cream or Cool Whip and chocolate curls, optional for serving
Instructions
Heat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
The crust is made by mixing flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Mix together oil and milk; place in a 9-inch pie dish, fluting edges if desired. It takes between 10 and 12 minutes to bake.
Pour the milk, egg yolks, cocoa, sugar, flour, salt, and flour into a saucepan on medium heat.
It will take about 10-15 minutes for the mixture to bubble and thicken as it cooks. The lumps can be beaten out if they become lumpy. You will not be able to thicken it much more once it is as thick as you want it. Cooking it too long won't result in thickening.
Stir in the butter and vanilla after the chocolate filling has thickened.
Let the pie cool for about 1 hour after you pour the chocolate filling into the baked pie crust.
Serve warm, at room temperature, or chill for 2-4 hours before serving. Add chocolate curls and whipped cream, if desired.
