2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder Salt to taste 1 tablespoon oil 1 cup milk Oil for frying For Garnish chopped Lettuce chopped cilantro sour cream refried beans guacamole chopped black olives cheese tex mix blend Pico de Gallo
Making Chalupa Dough The first step is to mix all the dry ingredients together (flour, baking powder, and salt).
Mix the dough with oil after adding it.
Make the dough by kneading it with milk. Pour 3/4 cup of milk into a cup at a time. If necessary, add the remaining 1/4 cup.
The dough can be kneaded with a little more liquid if needed.
Knead the dough until it feels soft and comes together.
Making chalupa Shells or disc Divide it into 8 equal pieces.
Next, roll each part between your palms to form a ball. Using a rolling pin, roll out each ball into a disc of 7-8 inches in diameter.
With a fork, make some holes. During frying, the chalupa will not puff up much.
Two inches is the maximum depth for oil. In a medium-sized pot, heat the oil.
Slowly slide the disc into the oil when the oil is ready.
As the disc rises in the oil, it will puff up a little.
Pick up the disc and flip it over with tongs.
To fold the disc in half, pinch up a side with tongs and fold it gently in half. For this half side, cook it for 30 seconds.
Once both sides have turned golden, flip them over and cook them for another minute.
Serving Serve chalupas on a plate topped with fried bread.
You can add fried beans, guacamole, pica de Gallo, lettuce, cheese, olives, sour cream, or anything else you like.
Let's eat and enjoy!
