This recipe is easy to make using a mix of white sugar, unsweetened instant yeast, and butter. So if you have these ingredients in your pantry and you’re up for a new adventure, then I would recommend trying this recipe.
3 1/2 - 4cupsall-purpose flour, scooped and leveled
1/4cupgranulated white sugar
1teaspoonsalt
4 1/2 teaspoonsinstant yeast (2 packages)
1cupwhole milk
1/2cupwater
1/2cupbutter, melted
Instructions
The flour, sugar, salt, and yeast should be added to a large mixing bowl with a stand mixer or a stand mixer. Mix well.
Using a medium saucepan, place the butter over medium heat. Add the milk and water to the butter once it has melted. Combine all ingredients and heat to 105 degrees Fahrenheit, stirring constantly.
Mix the dry ingredients with the butter, milk, and water, then add the butter, milk, and water to the stand mixer's paddle attachment.
Add a little more flour at a time until the dough becomes soft and tacky (not sticky). The exact measurements will depend on the brand, season, and humidity of the flour.
For 5-7 minutes, or knead by hand for the same amount of time, switch your stand mixer attachment to the dough hook and knead the dough until it is cohesive and slightly tacky.
Using a small amount of cooking oil, grease a large bowl and make a smooth ball from the kneaded dough. Grease a bowl and place the dough ball inside.
Place the bowl in a warm place, cover it with plastic wrap, and allow it to rise for 15-20 minutes.
Using a pastry mat or a very lightly floured surface, turn the dough out. Make 16 equal pieces with a bench scraper.
By tucking the ends under, form a mushroom-like shape with each portion, and then shape with your palms.
Place your shaped rolls evenly spaced into a 9x13 baking dish, greased with cooking spray. Rolls touching shouldn't be a problem, as long as they aren't crowded in one particular area. Uneven baking would result from this.
After 15-20 minutes, cover the rolls with plastic wrap and place them in a warm place to rise.
Heat the oven to 425°F.
Make sure your risen rolls are baked in a preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until a minimum internal temperature of 180F is reached.
Serve with butter (if desired), cool for 5 minutes, and enjoy!
